Update 2011 an 2012

Sometimes its hard to keep track of the many groups who have been involved in the HUG Program so we've decided to give you a quick catch up of those that have participated in the past two years.

In 2011 a mixed group travelled to Kenya visited the Laini Saba Primary School where they played games and did arts and crafts with the children. The adults in the group gave a workshop on Safguarding Children and Vulnerable adults.

HUG has built up a relationship with a number of schools over the years. 2011 was the first year that students from Fenham, Necastle upon Tyne participated. A total of 10 students plus two staff members traveled  They visited Kalungu GTC, Masaka, Uganda. They had a wonderful visit where painting, debating and shadowing African students were all part of the two weeks activities.

In October of 2011 a group from Armagh went to Kenya and for the first time stayed in Mary Ward Centre. They spent a week in Shalom Academy in Em Bul Bul on the periphery of Nairobi/Masai land and a week in Laini Saba Primary School. Participants engaged in Music, Arts and Crafts and games with local students in both places providing a fun and rewarding experience.

Then for 2012......

A group from St. Catherine's College Armagh spent two weeks in St. Bernadette's Primary School in Uganda engaging in a variety of enterprises from painting to constructing a canopy over a stove in the
kitchen, teaching exerices and playing volleyball and in genral bringing joy and excitement into the lives of 1,000 pupils.

Later in July, a group of students from Clonmel and Hacketstown travelled to Nariobi. In Shalom Academy, St Paul's Care Home and Laini Saba they were involved with cleaning, painting, teaching movement and song, plus arts and crafts to a range of boys and girls. While a female Speech Therapist from Ballymacnabb helped two young boys to articulate some words in Kiswahili and English.

We've included some photos from this years trips to both Uganda and Kenya to give you a further insight into the experience of participants.... as always we welcome comments, queries and information and photos of your experience with HUG.
