Sample Update: Newsletter 2007

Newsletter 1. Spring 2007

In 2003 a student at St. Catherine’s College Armagh wrote the following poem. Then no one had any idea that four years later 64 students and 13 adults would in the space of four years have made four visits to Africa and reached out to become friends to over 3,000 Primary school children and innumerable others too.

There’s something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart
It welcomes us back home
and makes it easier to part.

A hug’s a way to share the joy
And sad times we go through
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you ‘cause you’re you.

Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your Grandma to your neighbour
Or a cuddly bear.

Here we give you a glimpse of the different activities the students from Armagh have been involved with on their visits to East Africa. All this has been possible thanks to very many people both within Armagh and beyond who have enabled them to share and enhance the lives of people in Uganda and Kenya . In fact the assistance given to Uganda goes back to 1963. Then an rscj Sister Annie McGourty left Armagh to go to Uganda and the Apostolic Work Group in Armagh gave financial help to her new mission. To this day the Religious of the Sacred Heart are indebted to them and the people of Armagh for their continuous support.
